The 14-Day PAUSE Method
Before You React Again!
What Has That Trigger Already Cost You?
We need to move away from the emotional reaction and focus on a controlled, intentional response.
Step back from the immediate reaction so you can maintain control over the outcome of the situation.
The trigger is free, but some uncontrolled reactions are expensive.
Master the Pause. Calmness brings clarity.
PAUSE is a response skill, not a reason to remain in danger. If a situation is unsafe, threatening or escalating, prioritise distance, support and emergency help over completing the method.
Before the next reaction
The feeling is real. The reaction is still a choice you can train.
A raised voice. A message sent too quickly. A silence that became a wall. The moment may have lasted seconds; the repair can take days.
This manual helps you notice the trigger sooner, create enough space to think, and choose a response that protects what matters. You practise one observable skill each day using the MyResetMode PAUSE method.
The shift: stop fighting the feeling
A trigger can arrive before you are ready. You do not have to erase the feeling to change what happens next.
The skill is the space between noticing and acting. Even a brief pause can make another response available.
The trigger is free, but some uncontrolled reactions are expensive.

Step back from the immediate reaction so you can maintain control over the outcome of the situation.
You are not training yourself never to feel triggered. You are training yourself to notice, breathe and answer on purpose.

Five stages that create room to choose
- P
Perceive the trigger
You cannot choose what you cannot see. The trigger arrives before the story does — watch for the body, not the reason.
Catch the moment it lands, before it becomes behaviour.
- A
Acknowledge what you feel
What you can't name, you obey. Naming the feeling is not weakness — it is the first act of taking it back.
Name the feeling so it stops driving from the back seat.
- U
Unwind with breath
Your body does not speak logic. It speaks breath. Change the breath, and the body follows.
Inhale to a count of four. Exhale to a count of six to eight.
- S
Select your response
Reaction serves the feeling. Response serves the outcome. You only get to steer one — pick the outcome.
Choose the outcome first, then choose the words that serve it.
- E
Exit with calm
Most of the cost is not in the moment. It's in the ninety minutes after. A clean exit is what stops the bill.
Leave the moment without a new mess to clean up.

Day 1: Count the cost
Turn a vague regret into a number you can see.
Training without a reason collapses in week two. Today you build the reason. The cost of a trigger is never only the ten seconds it took — it is the opportunity, the relationship, the money, the hours of repair and the peace you did not get back. Written down, it stops being a mood and becomes a ledger.
Today's drill
- Answer all ten questions in the cost questionnaire below, honestly.
- Underline the single answer that stings most.
- Write one line: 'I am training because…' and finish it with that answer.
- Read your line out loud once.
